About the Workshop
Skill level: Beginner through advanced
Materials used: Karen will be teaching only in pastels. Other mediums are welcome, but demos and techniques will apply to pastels only.
Workshop Description: Explore the wonderful world of Plein air painting in this three-day workshop. I will share tips and techniques that will help you have successful and fun Plein air outings with pastels. There will be plenty of demos, exercises, and help at your easel. We will begin the workshop with a studio session to give us a great start and then spend the next two days outside (weather permitting). This workshop is an excellent opportunity to learn how to simplify and enjoy the Plein air experience with pastels.
I am a full-time artist and art educator. I live in Atlanta, Georgia with my husband Michael. I have two children and six grandchildren! I received my BA in Education from the University of Florida. I love to teach painting workshops around the world as well as online instruction through Patreon.
I consider myself a contemporary landscape painter. I work in most painting media but I have received recognition for my pastel paintings. I have exhibited my award-winning work around the world and have been published in Pastel Journal for my wildflower and landscape paintings. I am a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and a Masters Circle recipient of the International Association of Pastel Societies. I have also been a faculty member at the prestigious IAPS Conventions.
I have a passion for travel and painting while on location, most recently in our camper 'Joy'. I enjoy the opportunity to share my techniques and approach to making art in my classes and workshops. I am known for my ability to make art simple, accessible to all, and fun.
I am also an avid Daily Painter and blogger. I paint every day and share my work, art tips, and inspiration in my frequent posts on her blog ‘Painting My World’ and here on this website.
I am delighted to be a pastel instructor both in my workshops and online instruction through the Patreon platform. I am excited to share my love of art and help students experience the joy of painting. As Degas said “Art is not what you see. It’s what you make others see”. I look forward to helping others share their own artistic vision.
